AUSTRALIAN AMBASSADOR LAUDS YOUNG FILIPINO MATH WIZARDS
Ambassador Tony Hely (leftmost) and Australian Mathematics Trust Executive Director Prof Peter Taylor join the winners of the Australian Mathematical Contest (AMC) for the Western Pacific (Westpac) Awards during the awarding ceremonies of the Youth Excellence in Science Awards held in Quezon City recently. Diogo Moitinho de Almeida from Ateneo de Manila High School, Aldric Cristoval Reyes from Chiang Kai-Sheik and Amiel Sy from the Philippine Science High School (centre) were among the 23 awardees from the Asia Pacific region acknowledged as among the world’s best in mathematics. The AMC, the largest single event on the Australian education calendar, was participated by almost half a million students from 40 countries. Ambassador Hely recognised the growing appreciation of Filipino students in the subject, stressing that their educational achievements will benefit the country in the long run as they contribute to national development.
