“Taste Australia” launched in the Philippines

Taste Australia an innovative campaign to promote fresh Australian produce in the Philippines, was launched recently at the Australian Embassy.

Filipinos are increasingly aware of Australian fruit and vegetables as clean and safe, and demand for these fresh produce is on the rise. Australian fruit exports to the Philippines grew from A$ 500,000 in 2010 to A$ 20 million in 2017.

The first Australian produce to be promoted under the Taste Australia campaign are fresh Australian grapes which are in season from March until May. These will be available in leading retail stores such as Rustan’s Supermarkets, Shopwise, Robinsons, S&R, SM , and also in convenience stores.

The Taste Australia event saw lifestyle, food and family influencer Michelle Aventajado take charge of a cook-up  between Bondi and Bourke’s Australian owner Chef Wade Watson and the Australian Ambassador's official chef Edwin Ferrer. They showcased fresh Australian grapes in the local version of ceviche or “kilawin”.  Chef Wade prepared a fresh Snapper Ceviche with fresh Australian grapes while Chef Edwin took kilawin to the next level through his Tequila and coconut marinade blue marlin ceviche with Australian grapes. “Adding fresh Australian grapes provided the sweetness and color to the dish making it extra special," said the two chefs.

You can find the recipes and images from the event on the new official Facebook and Instagram pages for the Taste Australia campaign in the Philippines.

The Taste Australia campaign is a unique collaboration between Hort Innovation, Victorian Government and Austrade and is designed to help increase the profile, sales and consumption of premium fruit and vegetables in the Philippines. The launch follows successful events in Vietnam, Indonesia, and the UAE.
