Public sector leaders awarded Australia Awards Scholarships
07 May 2014
Fifty-four public sector leaders were recently awarded the prestigious Australia Awards Scholarships. The scholars are set to leave for Australia in June 2014 to pursue master’s degree in premier Australian academic institutions.
The scholars are from the Department of Education, Department of Education-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Civil Service Commission, Department of the Interior and Local Government, National Economic and Development Authority, National Mapping and Resource Information Authority, Metro Manila Development Authority, and from the provincial governments of Agusan del Sur, Aklan, Bukidnon, Davao del Norte, Guimaras, and Surigao del Norte.
The scholars are expected to return in 2015 to implement their re-entry action plans (REAP) in their organisations. REAP is a unique feature of Australia Awards that enable scholars to implement a development program and apply their Australian education and skills.
“Filipino scholars – both past and present – have been known for their commitment to academic excellence. We are pleased that this year, we are sending 54 high quality scholars from our partner organisations. Australia Awards Scholarships will give the awardees the opportunity to improve their skills and competencies so they can further contribute to Philippine development,” said Australian Embassy Minister Counsellor Layton Pike.
Since the 1950s thousands of Filipinos have been awarded the Australia Awards Scholarships and have implemented development programs in their communities or workplaces. Australia Awards Scholarships is a development tool to help improve the human resource base of the Philippines.
To prepare the scholars for student life in Australia, they recently had a departure briefing at SEDA Hotel in Davao City.
