17 March 2014
A timely regional forum on aviation and maritime transport security was held at the New World Hotel Makati 11-13 March 2014 and attended by experts from Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Manila forum, hosted by the Australian Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, discussed best practices in aviation and maritime transport security policy, with the primary focus on the protection of transport systems, trade routes and the travelling public from risks. Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Bill Tweddell (3rd from left) and Philippine Transportation and Communications Undersecretary Roland Recomono (4th from left) opened the three-day forum. Ambassador Tweddell cited the need to harmonize regulations on security measures across the region for greater efficiency, while Undersecretary Recomono lauded the participants for collaborating in developing a safe and secure transport network across the participating countries’ shared aviation and maritime borders.
