DEVELOPING FUTURE LEADERS THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS

Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Tony Hely (standing, center) poses with the 2008 Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) scholars from the Philippines during the launch of the ALA Scholarships held at the Asian Institute of Management Conference Center. Australia is a major provider of scholarships to Filipinos, with the Philippines among the four major recipients of the Php 53.2 billion (A$1.4 billion) Australian Scholarships initiative, which includes the ALA, for the Asia Pacific region. ALA Scholarships are offered to high-achieving leaders from the Asia-Pacific region who have potential to influence socio-economic policy reform and development outcomes both in their respective countries and in the region. Awardees can look forward to high quality education in Australia for Masters or Doctorate degrees. They also take part in a Leadership Development Program in Australia with opportunities to improve their partnerships and linkages within the Asia-Pacific region. In 2008, 16 Filipinos received Australian Leadership Awards and they shall commence their studies in Australia early next year.
