Australian Embassy joins relief distribution for quake victims in Bohol

Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Bill Tweddell helps repack rice supplies that will be distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development to people affected by the earthquake in Bohol. Australia is helping affected communities to get back on their feet by providing a Php 124 million (A$3.1 million) aid package to support critical needs in the worst hit-areas, including rice supply through the World Food Programme. Also present at the distribution activity in the municipality of Sagbayan were Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon ‘Dinky’ Soliman, Bohol Governor Edgardo Chatto, Australian Aid Minister Counsellor Layton Pike, Sagbayan Mayor Ricardo Suarez, WFP Representative and Country Director Praveen Agrawal, and DSWD Assistant Regional Director Nemia Antipala. Australia’s package of support also includes family survival kits containing sleeping mats, mosquito nets, water containers, health and dignity kits for women, shelter, water and sanitation, and early recovery activities.
