AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND EMBASSIES COMMEMORATE ANZAC DAY
The Australian and New Zealand Embassies in Manila led by Australian Ambassador Rod Smith (2nd from left) and New Zealand Ambassador Andrew Matheson (3rd from left) commemorated ANZAC Day with a dawn service on 25 April at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
They were joined by representatives from Philippine Government agencies, led by Undersecretary Eduardo Batac of the Department of National Defence (far right), and the diplomatic corps, including Turkish Ambassador Hatice Pinar Isik (far left).
ANZAC Day commemorates the bravery of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during the Gallipoli campaign of the First World War and recognises the sacrifices made by Australian and New Zealand soldiers and peacekeepers in numerous campaigns since then in the pursuit of peace and freedom.
