AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY SUPPORTS WASTE MANAGEMENT PROJECT IN BATANGAS CITY

Australian Embassy Direct Aid Program (DAP) Secretary Rick Adams recently opened an expanded materials recycling and storage area for a Households Recyclable Waste Materials Collection and Processing Facility in Brgy Dumantay, Batangas City.

Australia supported the construction of the waste management facility, managed by Buklod-Unlad ng Batangas Inc (BUBI), in 2007 and this year provided additional funding to support the expansion of the facility to accommodate the increasing volume of junk materials and household waste.

The waste segregation and recycling centre also serves as a venue for income-generating activities where BUBI members turn recycled scrap materials into products for sale such as metal sculptures, cookware and customised window grills.

Ambassador Rod Smith commended BUBI’s contribution to the promotion of environmental awareness and protection in Batangas City.

“We hope that Australia’s support will further help BUBI realise its vision for the facility to serve as a model and training centre for solid waste management and recycling in Batangas City and neighbouring areas,” Ambassador Rod Smith said.
