LAUNCH OF AUSTRALIA NETWORK (PHILIPPINES)
News, sport, drama and current affairs form the backbone of the new-look Australia Network channel, which hit our television screens in the Philippines on Monday, August 7th.
Formerly known as ABC Asia Pacific, the channel continues to broadcast the same popular programming that Filipino viewers have come to know and love – but with some brilliant new additions.
As the new name suggests, Australia Network offers television viewers in the Philippines an exciting range of programmes from all the television channels in Australia including the respected and trusted Australian Broadcasting Corporation and independent production houses.
For example, the massively popular Australian soap Home & Away now airs daily from Monday to Friday at 17:30 and other acclaimed Australian series such as hospital drama All Saints and hit holiday show Great Outdoors are already proving popular.
Alongside all this top drama, news and current affairs is also a major focus of the new Australia Network, with local correspondents reporting news from around the Asia Pacific region in three nightly evening news bulletins at 17:00, 19:00 and 21:00 and a special current affairs show on Tuesdays and Thursdays called Focus, after the 21:00 news . Early risers are also being looked after with the Breakfast Zone from 06:00 to 09:00 which brings the latest news and views from around the world to breakfast tables in the Philippines.
And of course, the new Australia Network wouldn’t be complete without sport, so viewers will soon be welcoming the roar of the V8 Supercars into their homes, alongside horse racing from the world famous Melbourne Cup, international and domestic rugby matches (both NRL and rugby union) and, of course, the AFL (Australian rules football).
Finally, the popular English language shows, Nexus and Study English have also found a new time slot at 16:00 to 17:00 offering guidance and support to viewers learning English, whether they’re looking to further their studies or improve their career prospects.
