Ang Retabla Rizalista (Relikaryo ni

by Alwin Reamillo
Beyond the Self: Contemporary Portraiture from Asia examines the representation of the self in current South and Southeast Asian art practice through the work of artists from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand. Exploring the possibilities of portraiture, the exhibition includes painting, photography, sculpture, drawing and media works created from the early 2000s to the present.
Participating artists, including Filipino artists Alfredo Equillo Jr, Jose Legaspi and Filipino-Australian Alwin Reamillo, are interested in re-describing individual and collective viewpoints within their specific historical and cultural landscapes.
The exhibition will be on display at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra until 6 November 2011. For more information, click here
