Australian Embassy officials visited Ilocos Norte on 22–23 October, part of Australia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its engagement with communities and partners across the Philippines.
The visit comes as Australia and the Philippines celebrate 80 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, a milestone reflecting the enduring friendship between our two countries.
Luke Villiers, Counsellor (Economic and Public Diplomacy), Australian Embassy, said the visit was an opportunity to strengthen relationships and hear directly from partners in Northern Luzon.
“Australia’s relationship with the Philippines reaches well beyond our capitals. We want to build stronger connections with communities, businesses and local leaders across the country and identify new opportunities to work together.”
During the visit, the Embassy delegation met with Laoag City Mayor Bryan Alcid and representatives of the Ilocos Norte provincial government. The delegation also engaged with Mariano Marcos State University, local and regional business groups, and local media.
The delegation also experienced Ilocos Norte’s rich culture and heritage, including enjoying one of the province’s best-known local delicacies, the famous Ilocos empanada.
