Australian and Philippine universities forge academic collaboration to boost human resource management

Two high-quality Australian and Philippine universities will offer innovative study and exchange opportunities for outstanding Filipino undergraduate and graduate students through a new academic collaboration between the University of Newcastle (Australia) and De La Salle University (Philippines), under the Australia Awards Scholarships institutional partnership framework.

The two universities signed a Memorandum of Agreement to formalise arrangements for the joint delivery of a dual program leading to a Masters in Human Resource Management from the University of Newcastle, and a Diploma in Industrial Relations Management from De La Salle University. Through this partnership, future Australia Awards Scholarship awardees will have the opportunity to finish a jointly-managed post-graduate degree program at the University of Newcastle and De La Salle University.

Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Bill Tweddell said, “The Australian Government places a high priority on education. We believe that education is essential to spurring economic prosperity and sustaining political stability. We are pleased to be a partner of the Philippines in its pursuit of academic excellence, research and learning.”

“It is our great hope that both Australians and Filipinos – whether faculty members or students – will reap the gains of the academic collaboration agreement between De La Salle University and our very own University of Newcastle, especially from the meaningful linkages that will be formed between academic peers.”

Since 2010, both universities have been pursuing educational partnership through faculty and student exchange, as well as research training of De La Salle University lecturers for six months to one year with the University of Newcastle’s Faculty of Science and Technology. The dual program delivery, under the Australian Government’s institutional partnerships program, is their latest collaboration. The program was introduced in 2010 to provide tailored and contextually-relevant educational experience for Filipinos.

For over 50 years, Australia has supported the Philippines’ best and the brightest to study and train at Australia’s world-class universities to enable them to contribute to Philippine development.

Applications for Australia Awards Scholarships 2016 intake will be open on 1 February 2015. Visit www.australiaawardsphilippines.org for more details.
