Australian Ambassador Rod Smith (centre) with NBI Director Nestor Mantaring and Australian Federal Agent Kurt Plummer, at the handover of vehicles and equipment to the National Bureau of Investigation. The eight vehicles (insert) and six laptops, given on behalf of the Australian Federal Police, will be used by the Anti Terrorism Division of the NBI.

This handover is part of a multi-million dollar project managed by the Australian Federal Police to help the law enforcement authorities in the Philippines develop capabilities in critical areas such as intelligence sharing, bomb investigation techniques, forensics and other skills particularly relevant to the fight against terrorism.

“Australia is pleased to be able to contribute to the work of the NBI,” said Ambassador Smith, “we hope that these vehicles will assist the NBI in a direct and practical way to discharge critical responsibilities for combating terrorism and provide for the security of Philippine communities.”
