AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS ACCESS TO A BETTER EDUCATION

Through the assistance of the Australian Government’s Direct Aid Program (DAP), more children will have an opportunity to reach their full potential through better access to quality education. Australian Ambassador Tony Hely recently handed a cheque amounting to Php250,000 to the Ayala Foundation Inc. represented by Ms Vicky Garchitorena, President of the Ayala Foundation (left) and Ms Carol Atacador, Executive Director of the Ayala Foundation’s Centre of Excellence in Public Elementary Education (CENTEX) Project.

The funding will be used to construct an additional classroom at CENTEX located in Bauan, Batangas, allowing the facility to accept additional students into the CENTEX Program. Since its opening in 1998, the CENTEX project has aimed to transform ordinary public elementary schooling into a center for excellence comparable to the best private schools but accessible to children of under resourced families.

The Direct Aid Program supports small-scale developmental projects that directly contribute to the welfare and income-generating capacity of disadvantaged groups in the Philippines. For information on how to apply for DAP funding, please contact the DAP Resource Officer, Australian Embassy, Level 23 Tower 2 RCBC Plaza, 6819 Ayala Avenue, Makati City.
