AUSTRALIA, DEPED START FRIENDSHIP WEEK 2018 BRIGADA ESKWELA

The Australian Embassy joined Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela to start its Philippines-Australia Friendship Week celebration on 21 May 2018.

Deputy Head of Mission Mat Kimberley joined parents, officials and alumni in cleaning, re-painting of walls, teacher tables and student armchairs at Teodoro Palma Gil Elementary School, Davao City.

“We are pleased to start our Friendship Week celebration with Brigada Eskwela. Australia and the Philippines have been longstanding partners in education, and we hope this helps the students prepare for the opening of classes in June,” Deputy Head of Mission Mat Kimberley said.

Deputy Head of Mission Mat Kimberley also handed over Learning Action Cell materials on ICT. These will help teachers to develop ICT skills and improve teaching of Coding and STEM in secondary schools. They will also enhance basic office productivity for teaching and learning, and the use of accessibility tools for disability-inclusive education.

The Australian Embassy also provided Kindergarten Kits. These are materials that a Kindergarten teacher can use to conduct learning activities with Kindergarten students.

Australia has proved approximately AUD 85 million in development assistance to the Philippines this year. Support for education is one of the highest priorities of Australia’s development partnership with the Philippines.

Australia’s support for the country’s education reforms included the development of curricula, construction and repair of classrooms, and scholarship grants, which are geared towards promoting inclusive socio-economic development.

Philippines-Australia Friendship Week is presented by the Australian Embassy in partnership with the Davao City Government, SM Lanang, Qantas and the Australia Global Alumni.
