Unveiling of Australia Corner at Davao City Library

Davao City, 22 May - Australian Embassy Charges d’affaires Mat Kimberley visited the Davao City Library and Information Centre to unveil the Australia Corner information stand and witness the turnover of book donations from Give A Textbook, an Australian not for profit organisation.  Visitors to the library will now have access to 700 academic and reference books.

The gifting is part of the annual celebration of Philippines-Australia Friendship Day on 22 May.  Earlier, a city board resolution also declared 21 to 27 May Philippines-Australia Friendship Week in Davao City.  “We are grateful to the Davao City Government and I am very pleased to celebrate Philippines-Australia Friendship Week here in Davao. I hope this simple gift from Australians to the Davaoeños will support learners of all ages, and encourage people to learn about Australia,” said Mr Kimberley.

The activity is part of the annual celebration of Philippines-Australia Friendship Day on 22 May.  Earlier, a city board resolution also declared 22 May Philippines-Australia Friendship Day in Davao City.  “I am very pleased to celebrate Philippines-Australia Friendship Day here in Davao City.   Australia has longstanding projects and partnerships in Mindanao, and we wanted to be here to strengthen and renew the friendships we have made over the years,” said Mr Kimberley.
