New Colombo Plan mobility grants to support Australian students to study and work in the Philippines in 2016
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop and Minister for Education and Training Christopher Pyne today announced details of projects that will be funded in 2016 under the New Colombo Plan, which will include the Philippines.
Australian Government New Colombo Plan mobility grants will support 51 Australian undergraduate students to live, study and undertake work placements in the Philippines next year.
In the Philippines, students will travel across the country while studying a broad range of subjects including human rights law, medicine, social work and education.
These are exciting projects that demonstrate the many opportunities for Australian students to further their academic studies and enjoy the experience of studying and working in the Philippines.
These students will return to Australia with new insights and understanding about the Philippines, as well as new, life-long friendships with their Filipino colleagues.
The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific by supporting Australian undergraduate students to study and undertake internships in the region.
Mobility projects are open to students from any discipline, and range from short-term study tours to semester-based study and internships. The New Colombo Plan also includes a scholarship program, which will support around 100 students in 2016.
The Australian Government has committed $100 million in new funding over five years to implement the New Colombo Plan in the Indo-Pacific region.
