MR090218- Mission to Showcase Australia's Mining Industry Expertise

MISSION TO SHOWCASE AUSTRALIA’S MINING INDUSTRY EXPERTISE

The Australian Embassy in Manila is hosting an Australian mining mission until the 21st of February to showcase Australia’s expertise in the field of mining services and technology.

Organised by the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), “ExplORE Philippines Mining Mission” involves 14 Australian mining equipment and technology services providers who are visiting the Philippines to discuss business opportunities with mine operators.

Embassy Chargé d’Affairés, Steve Scott said the mission was a response to the resurgence of activity in the Philippine mining sector in recent years.

“The robust activity in the local mining industry has increased demand for mining equipment, technology, services and education that can be supplied by participating Australian companies,” Mr Scott said.

“The Australian mining equipment and technology services industry is globally recognised for providing innovative solutions. Australian companies are providing highly-efficient mining services and technology to huge, internationally-competitive resources projects. Australia’s first-class mining software is being utilised by more than 65 per cent of the world’s mines. Australia is known for developing ‘world’s-best’ process control systems for mining and processing operations.”

Australia currently exports mining equipment, services and technology to more than 50 destinations, including China, India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and countries in South America, North America and Europe.

The five-day visit will include a technical seminar, where mission participants will present and discuss their technical capabilities with Philippine mining industry players and a visit to two mine sites.

“Australia hosts some of the largest mineral research and development programs and facilities which have produced a wide range of innovations that address the problems faced by almost every mining nation on earth. In the current climate of financial crisis, these innovations come to the fore to assist mine operators to minimise costs and maximise productivity,” Mr Scott said.

This mission is part of an Austrade regional program in South East Asia. Following the mission to Philippines, the Australian delegates will join Australian mining technology providers at OZMine Jakarta on 24-25 February.
