MR0210-Australia and Philippine governments launch Laguna Bay preservation project

AUSTRALIAN AND PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENTS LAUNCH LAGUNA BAY PRESERVATION PROJECT

Australian Ambassador Tony Hely is briefed by Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) Assistant General Manager Ms Dolora Nepomuceno and Mr Jose Cariño III on the scope of the lake preservation project during its launch held at the University of the Philippines- Los Baños. The project, funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), aims to undertake steps to preserve Laguna de Bay by developing appropriate management strategies with the involvement of natural resource management and agricultural agencies to reduce the pollution load from agricultural activities in the Pagsanjan-Lumban sub watershed. The project launch was also attended by the Pagsanjan, Laguna Mayor Emilio Ramon Jacinto III, University of the Philippines- Los Baños Chancellor Dr Luis Rey Velasco, Dr. Rai Kookana, principal research scientist of Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Land & Water, Dr Ian Willet of ACIAR Canberra and ACIAR Manager (Philippines) Cecilia Honrado.
